Nantwich is a charming market town on the River Weaver in south Cheshire, which owed its historic wealth to the salt industry. The Romans first tapped into the local brine springs, and by the Tudor era, the town was home to hundreds of salt houses, making it one of England's most vital salt hubs alongside Chester. Much of the medieval town was destroyed in a massive fire in 1583, but thanks in part to funding from Queen Elizabeth I, it was rebuilt with timber-framed houses. Many of these still stand today, leaving Nantwich with some of the highest concentrations of listed buildings in the UK.

Visitors love strolling through streets filled with black-and-white Tudor architecture, including the impressive Churche's Mansion from 1577. The town centre is dominated by St Mary's church, often called the cathedral of south Cheshire, which is famous for its ornate choir stalls.
