Sitting high on a cliff overlooking the Firth of Clyde on the Ayrshire coast, Culzean Castle is a Georgian masterpiece and one of the National Trust for Scotland's most iconic sites. Between 1777 and 1792, the famous architect Robert Adam transformed an old tower house into a grand mansion for David Kennedy, the 10th Earl of Cassillis. The castle is best known for its massive drum tower, which houses a beautiful circular drawing room with sea views, accessed via a stunning oval staircase.

The Kennedy family gifted the castle to the public in 1945, reserving a private apartment for General Dwight D. Eisenhower as a thank you for his wartime leadership; he visited several times, even after becoming US President. Now, visitors can wander through the lavish rooms and explore a huge country park filled with gardens, woodland, and coastal walks.
